Masonry & Waterproofing

You probably think that the last thing you need to worry about repairing is your chimney. However, the Midwest is known for our harsh winters and heavy precipitation throughout the year and that weather often brings damages that shouldn’t wait to be fixed.

We can repair your masonry with our extensive services which include:

  • crack repairs
  • tuckpointing
  • brick replacement
  • rebuild

Three Ways to Notice if You Need Masonry or Waterproofing Work

  1. One of the easiest ways to check on your chimney mortar is to take a walk around the outside of your house and take a close look at the mortar. First, touch it. It shouldn’t be flaky or crumbly. Take a look at the ground at the base of the chimney. If you see white flecks or flakes, your chimney has a condition called spalling. If left untreated, this condition can cause instability in the structure of your chimney, and that can pose a threat to the safety of you and your family.
  2. Another sign that your mortar isn’t what it should be is efflorescence. If you look at your brick and see a white or gray, often times sparkly, coating on the brick surface of the chimney, you are seeing efflorescence.
  3. Are there spots in the spaces between the mortar joints of your chimney? Those are the spaces between the bricks which are filled with mortar to hold them together. This means that there may be structural damage to the chimney itself.
